What keeps you entertained? What for you is entertainment? Is simply reading a good novel on a lazy afternoon as you drink your hot tea, for you entertainment? Or is dressing up your best, and going out to party to cap your week, your definition of entertainment? Well, entertainment is definitely a value term; it varies from one person to another. One may find pleasure in having a very timid lifestyle or a slow paced life, while another person may find that socializing with other people over booze in the bar is what gives them pleasure.
Surely, entertainment is never the same for all people, but it is something that many of us would always want to do. To find something amusing and something that will provide pleasure to our senses, something that will pique our interest and make us have that permanent smile in our face is what we always strive for in life.
Entertainment exists in variety of ways. The definition of entertainment is unquestionably limitless; because much of our daily lives are presented with opportunities for us to get entertained. Just the simple chirping of the bird can very much entertain us when we are already bombarded with music that has been playing on and on and on for several hours. When we are grounded on our house, we will surely realize that even the barking of our dog is entertaining. At some certain events, even staring at a blank wall or over the ceiling is entertaining, when we are studying for hours already. Simply put, entertainment gives distraction when our time is filled with activities that have made us become very accustomed to.
“Familiarity breeds contempt,” if we have become so familiar and habituated to what we are doing, it makes us despise the activity. Thus, the presence of entertainment in this world serve a truly important purpose, that is to break the monotony in our life, and cut the familiarity with the things that we are doing, so that we don’t have that feeling of lack of reverence to what we constantly do. Entertainment provides relief, somehow a break to the dull life, so that our brain and our entire psyche will be reset and refreshed and we gain a longer attention span to our mundane activities. All thanks to things that we find amusing!
So, if you find playing basketball after your class, or drinking beer with your co-workers after your long hours of work entertaining; and if you find pleasure with what you are doing, and it serves a purpose to break the monotony of your life, then you have the entire world for your taking. You are free to do the things that will provide you a sigh of relief or a breath of fresh per se, when you think that you are already too choked with things that you have been doing on a routine basis.
There is no harm in having fun once in a while; rather it actually gives you that energized feeling of being able to do the best with what you normally do. Entertainment gives pleasure to many people and as such, it is something that must be incorporated in every person’s life, and must not be taken for granted or put in the backseat.THE
