So you want to invite a few of your friends over for a few drinks and some chit-chat or your kids are going away to college and keep asking if they can invite their friends over for a little gathering before they all go their separate ways. However, you keep delaying it because you think its too much work, too costly or you are just unsure about how to be the perfect host. I will provide you with five simple and easy tips on how you can have that little gathering or party.
If you are considering an inside gathering use the most spacious room in your house. Make sure you tidy up the place; vacuum,sweep, wipe, do whatever needs to be done. Make sure your bathroom is clean as well with available soap, tissue, napkins and or towels as it is likely that at least one of your guest will want to use the bathroom. If you are planning an outdoor event mow and rake the lawn, take up the trash and leaves and make sure the yard is clean. If you have pets such as bad dogs, lock them or warn your guest about them.
2.Make sure you have food and drinks.
Choose foods that more than likely everybody will eat, food that is not too heavy, finger food can be ideal. The best way to find out what are your guest’s likes and dislikes is to ask upon invitation. You can choose to prepare your own meals or order before hand. Food should also be presented attractively. Make sure cool drinks are available and since people usually drink more than they eat make sure you have enough drinks to pass around. Whether or not you should alcohol based juice is determined by the age group and preference of those you are entertaining.
Music lightens people’s mood and the atmosphere. make sure the music is not too loud that people have to shout to hear each other. Play music that your guest will like, that matches the age group of your guest and music everyone can listen. If you know your guests very well and are acquainted with their taste in music then create a playlist with those songs. A disk joke is not always necessary, especially for a small gathering just have a friend who knows and loves music play the tunes for you on a laptop as most people know how to use virtual DJ.
Provide easy competitive party games for your guest to get involved in. it could range from board games, karaoke, charades, twister to dance mats. What ever the games maybe make sure it is suitable for groups and they are games that your guest will surely enjoy.
5.Introduce and talk to everyone.
Not all your guest may know each other so as the host and to lighten the atmosphere go around and introduce your guest, crack a joke or two, get them talking. make sure no one looks lonely and occasionally join in your guest’s conversations, add to the conversation so they actually know your listening. Indicators such as “I see” and “that’s interesting” shows that you were listening. smile and even laugh at the jokes. Just make sure you are mingling and talking with your guest.
